মস্তিষ্ক ঘুমের সময় সবসময় সম্পূর্ণ বিশ্রামে থাকে না; বরং এটি একটি জটিল স্নায়বিক প্রক্রিয়ার মধ্য দিয়ে যায়, যার মাধ্যমে এটি অবচেতন মনে একটি সমান্তর বাস্তবতা তৈরি করে। বিজ্ঞান ও নিউরোসায়েন্সের দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে স্বপ্ন কেবল কল্পনার ফল নয়। বরং এটি এমন একটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রক্রিয়ার অংশ, যা মস্তিষ্কের তথ্য প্রক্রিয়াজাতকরণ ও স্মৃতি সংগঠনের সাথে জড়িত।➤REM ঘুম ও স্বপ্নের নিউরোসায়েন্স :ঘুমের যে পর্যায়টি সবচেয়ে সক্রিয়, তাকে বলা হয় REM (র্যাপিড আই মুভমেন্ট) বা দ্রুত চোখের নড়াচড়াযুক্ত ঘুম। এই পর্যায়ে শরীরের পেশীগুলো সাময়িকভাবে প্যারালাইজড বা অবশ হয়ে যায়—এ অবস্থাকে বলা হয় স্লিপ প্যারালাইসিস, যদিও মস্তিষ্ক তখনও খুব সক্রিয় থাকে, প্রায় জেগে থাকা অবস্থার মতো।এটি লক্ষণীয় যে, এই পর্যায়ে মস্তিষ্কের যে অংশটি যুক্তি ও বিচারবুদ্ধির জন্য দায়ী—ডরসোল্যাটারাল প্রিফ্রন্টাল কর্টেক্স (DLPFC)—সেটির কার্যকলাপ কমে যায়। অন্যদিকে, আবেগ প্রক্রিয়াজাতকরণে প্রধান ভূমিকা পালন করা অ্যামিগডালা এবং দৃশ্যমান বস্তুর প্রক্রিয়াজাতকরণে জড়িত ভিজ্যুয়াল কর্টেক্স খুব সক্রিয় হয়ে ওঠে। যুক্তিচিন্তা ব্যাপকভাবে কমে যাওয়ার কারণেই আমাদের স্বপ্নের অদ্ভুত, অবাস্তব ও প্রায়শই অসম্ভব ঘটনাগুলো আমাদের কাছে পুরোপুরি সত্য বলে মনে হয়।...see more
গ্র্যাভিটি: বল, নাকি বক্রতা?
মহাবিশ্বের সবচেয়ে পরিচিত, অথচ সবচেয়ে রহস্যময় শক্তি কোনটি বলুন তো? আজ থেকে শত শত বছর আগে যদি আপনি গাছ থেকে একটি আপেল মাটিতে পড়তে দেখতেন, তবে সেটাকে খুব সাধারণ একটা ঘটনা বলেই ধরে নিতেন। কিন্তু এই সাধারণ ঘটনার পেছনেই লুকিয়ে ছিল মহাবিশ্বের সবচেয়ে বড় রহস্য গ্র্যাভিটি বা মহাকর্ষ। আজ আমরা এমন এক রোমাঞ্চকর ব্যাখ্যায় যাব, যেখানে গ্র্যাভিটি নিয়ে মুখোমুখি হবেন বিজ্ঞানের দুই শতাব্দীর দুই মহান বিজ্ঞানী স্যার আইজ্যাক নিউটন এবং আলবার্ট আইনস্টাইন। আপাতদৃষ্টিতে মনে হতে পারে একজন ভুল আর একজন সঠিক, কিন্তু গল্পের শেষে আপনাদের জন্য অপেক্ষা করছে এক দারুণ টুইস্ট! নিউটনের চোখে গ্র্যাভিটি এক অদৃশ্য টান। ১৬৮৭ সালে স্যার আইজ্যাক নিউটন আমাদের জানালেন, গ্র্যাভিটি হলো এক ধরণের অদৃশ্য আকর্ষণ বল। মূল ধারণা: মহাবিশ্বের যেকোনো দুটি বস্তু (যার ভর আছে) একে অপরকে নিজের দিকে আকর্ষণ করে। এই আকর্ষণ বলের মান বস্তু দুটির ভরের গুণফলের সমানুপাতিক এবং তাদের মধ্যবর্তী দূরত্বের বর্গের ব্যস্তানুপাতিক। ভিত্তি: নিউটনের বলবিদ্যার ভিত্তি ছিল একটি স্থির, অপরিবর্তনীয় থ্রি-ডিমেনশনাল (3D) স্পেস বা স্থান। যেখানে সময় সবার জন্য সমানভাবে বয়ে চলে।নিউটন আমাদের গাণিতিকভাবে বুঝিয়ে দিলেন কেন চাঁদ পৃথিবীর চারদিকে ...see more
বিড়াল পালন কি সত্যিই স্কিজোফ্রেনিয়ার ঝুঁকি বাড়ায়?
সম্প্রতি সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যম ও বিভিন্ন সংবাদমাধ্যমে একটি গবেষণাকে ঘিরে ব্যাপক আলোচনা শুরু হয়েছে। শিরোনামটি ছিল বেশ চমকপ্রদ বিড়াল পালন করলে স্কিজোফ্রেনিয়ার ঝুঁকি বেড়ে যেতে পারে। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই এমন খবর অনেক বিড়ালপ্রেমীকে উদ্বিগ্ন করেছে। কিন্তু গবেষণার মূল ফলাফল বিশ্লেষণ করলে দেখা যায়, বাস্তবতা শিরোনামের চেয়ে অনেক বেশি জটিল এবং সূক্ষ্ম।২০২৩ সালে Schizophrenia Bulletin জার্নালে প্রকাশিত একটি সিস্টেম্যাটিক রিভিউ ও মেটা-অ্যানালাইসিসে গত ৪৪ বছরে ১১টি দেশে পরিচালিত ১৭টি গবেষণার তথ্য বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়। গবেষণায় দেখা যায়, শৈশবে বিড়ালের সংস্পর্শে থাকা ব্যক্তিদের মধ্যে স্কিজোফ্রেনিয়া-সংশ্লিষ্ট মানসিক সমস্যার সঙ্গে একটি পরিসংখ্যানগত সম্পর্ক (association) রয়েছে। তবে গবেষকরা স্পষ্টভাবে উল্লেখ করেছেন, এই সম্পর্ক কোনোভাবেই প্রমাণ করে না যে বিড়ালই স্কিজোফ্রেনিয়ার কারণ। সম্পর্ক (association) আর কারণ (causation)—এই দুটি বিষয় এক নয়।...See more
